Hi everyone. Apologies for being so weirdly absent. I've had some personal issues completely derail me. My dad had a massive heart attack while out of town in July, and I've had a lot on my plate. I couldn't afford to go be with him or send my mom to be with him, and so we've been trying to get updates and coordinate care from across the country ever since. His condition has been touch and go until just this week, and it's looking as though he's going to make it, fingers crossed. But anyway, my days have been filled with dealing with this stuff long distance, and I just haven't been able to concentrate on JF.

But I do promise that no, I've not just thrown in the towel, and the old posts are not lost. I've just been without any help in getting things restored. I know there are probably all but 5 of you left who even care, but at some point everything will be back, and maybe we can breathe new life into the site. I love JF so much, and I can't bear to part with it. It's just not been practical for me to spend time here regularly. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that I can dedicate more time very soon, especially if my dad's condition continues to improve and we aren't constantly hanging by the phone waiting for the other shoe to drop.

So, that's what up. Thanks for hanging in there, whoever might be left!

Community issues are next on my to-do list for this version of the site. I have a post over at the [staff profile] guineapig journal for leaving your list of issues with communities. You can leave them here, too, of course, but any testing related to communities will probably be through that journal anyway. As I said over at guineapig, community functions seem to be the next thing we need to have back to make this place more useful for us until we get everything restored. So, what do we need? Throw it at me!

So I've made some progress on my local testing machine and I think I can get everyone's reading pages to show the latest updates. It's working now locally, so I'll be working on getting that fix implemented for us here tonight. I'm trying to be careful about futzing here since the functionality is so wacky as it is. But I think this will help a lot. And it's possible also that I could get previous content imported here, too. Probably not tonight, but maybe soon.

Fingers crossed!

I haven't quietly skipped away, I promise. I've been quietly working on my test install, so I don't muck up anything you might have managed to get going here live. I've made a lot of strides getting basic entry content back, but I still haven't figured out why entries from friends aren't recognized on the reading page. But I'm slowly getting things back, and I'll have a little more help soon, too. If any of you would like to lend a hand, I won't turn it down, just FYI.

Thanks!

So, I have confirmed that newly created accounts on this system do show up on the reading pages when the user posts. I'm trying to compare account properties on new vs existing journals to see what I can update/correct to get existing account posts to show up properly.

If you want to create new journals to try yourself, make a request on the invite page, and I'll send invite codes your way.

Thanks!

Oh, and in case you haven't found it, invite code requests are here:

If you need an additional account for yourself or anyone else, the invite code system is working. All you have to do is login and click the link to Invite Someone, and use the link on that page to request codes. I'll be going in and approving requests periodically, so you shouldn't have to wait long. I'll also make sure new accounts here on journalfen.com make it onto journalfen.net when that's eventually all fixed with its original content, too, so don't worry about anyone being left behind.

Thanks!

I have the [staff profile] guineapig  journal open for dropping notes/requests and testing, if you'd like to pop in there.

I know this blank slate isn't ideal, but I didn't want us to be too long without a place to do at least some posting under your usernames. I'm sorry I couldn't get userpics and friend info imported along with our usernames.

The plan, though, is to eventually get EVERYTHING back under our normal journalfen.net domain, and then we can import posts we made here into our normal site when it's all ready and our content is restored. But until I can make that happen, I'll do everything I can to make this temporary install as functional as I can.

Start throwing your requests at me, and if it's doable, I will.

Thanks!

apparently, a test post from the update page while not logged in didn't work. I want to be able to post and go hallelujah.

trying a simple post, but many things still seem broken.
