Faithwire, reported October 22, 2018: ‘The Message’ Author Eugene Peterson Has Died.
Eugene Peterson, the beloved Christian author known for his Bible translation, “The Message,” has passed away. He was 85 years old.

In mid-October, Peterson was admitted to hospice care after the writer experienced “a sudden and dramatic turn in his health caused by an infection,” his son, Eric, announced. He went on to note his father was suffering from dementia and pneomonia, both of which were “advanced and progressing.”

Screenwriter and novelist Jeb J. Rosebrook died Aug. 31 in Scottsdale, AZ. He was 83.

CNN, reported August 12, 2018: V.S. Naipaul, Nobel-winning novelist, dies at 85.
Nobel Prize-winning novelist V.S. Naipaul, who was born in Trinidad but lived most of his life in England, died in his London home Saturday, Britain's Press Association reported, citing Naipaul's wife.

He was 85.

In awarding him the $1 million Nobel Prize in Literature in 2001, the Swedish Academy praised Naipaul for combining genres into his own style that compels readers "to see the presence of suppressed histories. ... In a vigilant style, (he) transforms rage into precision and allows events to speak with their own inherent irony."

The Nobel judges singled out as his "masterpiece" the 1987 work "The Enigma of Arrival."

When I heard from a friend and fellow fan that writer Harlan Ellison (May 27, 1934 – June 28, 2018) died at home Thursday at the age of 84, the first thing I did was ignore my friend for a moment and contact my editor. “Ellison died,” I wrote. “Want something from me?” This is the influence Ellison had on multiple generations of writers. Words first.

Ellison was not a household name, but among a certain set of readers, television and film viewers, and comic book fans, he was inescapable.

Legacy.com, reported June 8, 2018: Anthony Bourdain (1956 – 2018), celebrity chef, author, and TV host.
American TV celebrity and food writer Anthony Bourdain was found dead in his hotel room Friday in France while working on his CNN series on culinary traditions around the world. He was 61.

CNN confirmed the death, saying in a statement that Bourdain was found unresponsive Friday morning by friend and chef Eric Ripert in the French city of Strasbourg. It called his death a suicide.
This hits me hard, as I have been a fan of his since I read "Kitchen Confidential." People also said I sound like him.

Author Ursula K. Le Guin Has Died from Wochit News, reported January 23, 2018.
Best-selling Sci-Fi and Fantasy author Ursula K. LeGuin has died at her home in Portland, Oregon. She was 88. Le Guin's books have sold millions of copies worldwide, inspired other authors, and been translated into dozens of languages. Her work often explored themes not seen in other science fiction. Le Guin won awards like the National Book Foundation Medal for Distinguished Contribution to American Letters. In 2003, she became the first woman to be named a Grandmaster of Science Fiction. She is survived by her husband, son, two daughters, two brothers, and four grandchildren.

Richard Peck (1934 – 2018), prize-winning children’s author, reported May 25, 2018.
Prize-winning children's author Richard Peck, who drew upon his Illinois roots for such favorites as "A Long Way from Chicago" and "A Year Down Yonder," has died.

Peck died on Wednesday at his home in New York City at age 84. His publisher, Penguin Young Readers, told The Associated Press, that he died after a battle with cancer.

Kate Wilhelm, a prolific, prizewinning author of science fiction and mystery novels, died on March 8 in Eugene, Ore. She was 89.

The cause was respiratory failure, her son Richard Wilhelm said.
